Aromas of summer berries, light earth, peppery spice. Dominated by red, ripe fruit; moderate tannins. Best served chilled. Pairs well with French charcuterie; roasted chicken with herbs.

The entry-level cuvee that's brought up in older barrels (the Caprice is their older vine cuvee), the 2016 Crozes-Hermitage Espiegle has a fruit forward, delicious, medium-bodied style as well as classic plum and black cherry fruits, leafy herbs, peppery, and violets. There's a Côte Rôtie-like floral character here, it has no hard edges, and just incredible charm. I'd be thrilled to drink bottles over the coming 4-6 years. While it's not quite as concentrated as the flagship release, I find that it offers just as much pleasure.
