Jim Barry The Lodge Hill Shiraz 2016
|Region||Australia, South Australia, Clare Valley|
Detailed, with an appealing precision to the mineral-laced plum, black cherry and date flavors. Spice and black tea notes linger on the finish. The tannins are dense but polished. Drink now through 2035.
A sturdy wine showcasing Clare Valley's comparatively cool climes in the form of raspberry, cola, chocolate, and spicy, peppery oak characters. A lifted line of acidity makes the fruit feel juicy but there's simultaneously something heavy about the oak and tannin profile, like a thick blanket over the tongue, that weighs the wine down. Overall, a solid if not overly characterful wintery red.
