Peju Cabernet Sauvignon 2012
Rich and complex, the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon offers lovely aromas of summer berries with hints of anise, cocoa powder and caramel on the nose. Concentrated flavors of mocha, cherry, ripe raspberry and nutmeg lead to a rounded finish with restrained, yet velvety tannins.
Blend: 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot, 2% Syrah, 1% Cabernet Franc, 1% Malbec
Wine EnthusiastCellar Selection. A majority varietal, this wine also holds small amounts of Merlot, Petit Verdot and Syrah. These combine well with one another to exude notes of licorice, plum and black cherry. Right now, it ends with sprinklings of dried herb. Dense and tannic, it will soften with time, through 2020.
Wine SpectatorDense and extracted, offering a tight knit of loamy earth, black fruit, licorice and cedary oak notes, with a grainy tannic texture that pins the flavors to the palate. Drink now through 2028. 13,547 cases made.
Wine AdvocateThe 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon seems somewhat a disappointment for the vintage. It's slightly austere, angular, lacking the charm, sweetness and fruit and ripe tannin that are very prominent hallmarks of this vintage. There's nothing wrong with it, it's clean, medium-bodied, but relatively innocuous and one-dimensional. Drink it over the next 5-7 years.
