Kona Wine Market

Wine of the Week. August 7, 2017

Happy Monday!

I'd like to talk about what we are most passionate about at the shop: our staff. We have a wonderful team here, and what better way to showcase them, than to share with you some of their favorite wines. Each person brings a unique recommendation to the table. Our first recommendation comes from Howard. Most of you know Howard, as he has been with the store since 1996, when it was located at the King Kamehameha Shopping Center. His loyalty to the shop has never gone unnoticed, and his love for words makes for a great weekly newsletter we put out via email. So be sure to sign up for that! Sign up!

One of his favorite wines is a Rosé from the Central Coast of California. Bonny Doon Vin Gris de Cigare 2014 has all of the necessary qualities for a terrific pink wine — freshness, a hint of residual sugar, and a stoniness that many of the great French rosés from Provence have. California is producing many top quality wines, and this is one of them, at a very affordable price. For under $20 it shows notes of fresh strawberries and citrus. Crisp and refreshing, perfect for a mid-day treat in the Summer time.

Another great thing to mention about this particular winery is that in 2007 they started listing their ingredients on their labels. Not many wineries do this and we 100% support this move. With healthier lifestyles on the rise, we can really get a better look at what goes into our favorite beverages.

Next time you're in the area, say hello to Howard and pick up a bottle of this fantastic, yet affordable, Rosé.

Serving Suggestion: Try serving with appetizers, such as hummus and olives. Also goes great with a main dish, such as pizza.
